Nurul’s Father Killed: 8-Year-Old Rohingya Boy Struggles in Refugee Camp
Nurul is a 8-year-old Rohingya refugee boy who lives with his mom and a brother. His father was killed by the Myanmar army in 2017, and he escaped with his mother and 5-year-old brother when he was 6 months old. Although he doesn't remember the events in Myanmar in 2017, he misses his father. He dislikes staying in the camp and wishes to go out, see beyond the camp, and attend a good school. However, they are not allowed to leave the camp. His mom and 13-year-old brother do not work due to the restrictions and lack of work permits as per refugee law in Bangladesh. Nurul attends the P4H school. He dreams of becoming an activist to advocate for Rohingya rights in his country and hopes to return to his motherland.

How are the Rohingya Refugees living in the camps?
As for the living conditions of Rohingya refugees in the camps, almost 1.7 million reside in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. They face dire circumstances, living in overcrowded and makeshift shelters with limited access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare. The absence of proper documentation restricts their movement and job opportunities. Inadequate educational facilities pose challenges for the youth, and food scarcity, coupled with dependence on aid, leads to malnutrition. The camps are susceptible to flooding and landslides, exacerbating their hardships. The Rohingya endure a challenging existence, emphasizing the urgent need for international support and humanitarian aid.
